Defense... Attention to detail.

When I first started coaching and even playing high school/college ball, you never realized what all goes in to a defensive game plan and philosophy.

I have been extremely fortunate to be around some of the best defensive minds here both in the USA and Mexico. What all the successful defensive coaches have in common is their attention to detail. We know the game is won on the fields, and sometimes its what joe's you have on your team compared to the x's-o's. The game can go either way if a good defensive game plan puts those joe's (the players) in the right position at the correct time.

A great defensive minds breaks down the details starting on when opponent film is received. Every detail and tendency to how the WRs are situated, how the running back stands, what the QB does pre-snap and if the guard is on his heels so on and so forth.

Then the breakdown after noticing those tell and tendencies pre-snap, what play is called, and why. Breaking down percentage of run pass on downs and distance, top passes and top runs. An offensive coordinator my have 80 plays on his sheet but he will always go back to the ones that work. He may adjust the formation or throw a motion in but at the end of the day it's the same play on the same down. Keep in mind your film is just as broken down the same way you broke down his.

Transferring that information to fellow coaches and players and practicing what needs to be down without giving away to much to the offense is key. Player should be made aware of pre-snap tells on their keys because it may give away what that player will do. After the snap its just how well you taught your players to execute their assignments.

You could have the greatest game plan in the world but if your players don't know how to get off the ball, shed, tackle and all the fundamentals, your game plan won't work.

If i could back and tell my 16 year old self, or 18 year old self, this is what i would say. "study film and pay attention to the details."

There is so much that goes into a defense, this is just a small portion of the big picture.

Cuando comencé a entrenar e incluso a jugar a la escuela secundaria / bachillerato universitario, nunca te diste cuenta de todo lo que implica un plan de juego defensivo y una filosofía. He sido muy afortunado de estar cerca de algunas de las mejores mentes defensivas aquí en los Estados Unidos y México. Lo que todos los entrenadores de defensa exitosos tienen en común es su atención al detalle. Sabemos que el juego se gana en los campos, y a veces es lo que joe tienes en tu equipo en comparación con los x-es. El juego puede ir de cualquier manera si un buen plan de juego defensivo pone a esos joe (los jugadores) en la posición correcta en el momento correcto. Una gran mente defensiva analiza los detalles comenzando cuando se recibe la película del oponente. Cada detalle y tendencia a cómo se ubican los WR, cómo se ubica el corredor, qué hace el QB antes del snap y si el guardia está pisándole los talones, etc. Luego, el colapso después de notar a los que dicen y las tendencias preincluyen, cómo se llama a jugar y por qué. Desglosando el porcentaje de pase de run on downs y distance, top passes y top runs. Un coordinador ofensivo tengo 80 jugadas en su hoja, pero siempre volverá a las que funcionan. Si pudiera respaldar y contarle a mi yo de 16 años o a mi ser de 18 años, esto es lo que diría. "Estudia la película y presta atención a los detalles". Hay tantas cosas en defensa que esto es solo una pequeña porción del panorama general.
